This page contains information for students interested in joining the Apha Lambda chapter of Alpha Omega at UAB. It also contains forms and links for current members.

what is alpha omega?

Alpha Omega is a professional dental fraternity. Our chapter was started in January of 2007. We recieved our charter in March of 2007 with 12 members. Throughout the year, we have social, professional, and community service events. Some of these have included: a members dinner, a residency information seminar with the heads of the UAB residency programs, and a t-shirt fundraiser (which raised over $700).  Our chapter represents only a small part of a much larger international fraternity that has chapters at over 30 dental schools, membership of over 13,000 dentist, and representation in 16 countries. National benefits include the ability to participate in an externship program with alumni members in different parts of the country (and world), assistance with residencies and associateships, and connections with dentists in Atlanta (the closest chapter - with several hundred alumni members). There is also a national student leadership conference in November (travel expenses sponsored locally except some airfare for one representative) and an international convention (airfare sponsored nationally for 1-2 representatives).

How to join Alpha Omega

To join the UAB chapter of Alpha Omega, there are two things you need to do. First, you need to fill out the membership form and email this to Nate Lawson (nlawson@uab.edu) or turn it into the student affairs office on the first floor of the dental school. Second, you have to turn in a membership check to one of the presidents or treasurer of the fraternity (see membership page for contact info). The membership fee is:

  • $70 for first year
  • $30 for each additional year
  • or $20/yr for local membership only

You can pay with cash or a check made out to Alpha Omega. $55 of your membership fee will go for your national membership and $25 will go to local dues for funding programs.
