president's update may 2009
Clay (firstname.lastname@example.org) is in charge of the nursing home oral hygiene program. He has met with Ms Graham from the Methodist Home For Aging. He collected common questions from Ms. Graham and had them answered by Dr. Thornton. In the future, we will arrange a 15 minute oral health presentation to assist with their training program.
Kristen (email@example.com) arranged the AO Karaoke Social. There was a turnout of around 40 and the program ended under-budget!
Michael (firstname.lastname@example.org) is in charge of Kegs n Kickball. The event is tentatively scheduled for Friday May 16 or 23 at Patriot Park.
Marc (email@example.com) planned our first lunch n' learn of the year. We are having Dr. Kevin Alexander come and talk about the financial aspects of dentistry. This is a catered exclusively AO event. It Thursday March 27 is in room 501 from 12:00-1PM.
AO has donated $100 for miles for smiles and 3 t-shirts for the door prizes at the UAB Scholar's Symposium.
It is the time of year to start organizing orientation packets for next year's freshman students. These will include: a letter of introduction to the dental school, housing (apartment) information, and a link to the roommate finder service.
Some good news: Our chapter won a chapter efficiency award and received a certificate of appreciation for our charitable donation ($180) at the national convention.
We have new international officers. Here's a link to the pics I tried to open at the meeting: http://www.students.ao.org/officers.html
Atlanta has been discussed as a possible site for the national AO student leadership conference. This meeting is scheduled for Fall 2008. We should have a large UAB attendance.
